ALICE IN WONDERLAND IN THE TIMES AND POST NEWSROOMS, AND THE WHITE HOUSE IS PATTING ITSELF ON THE BACK Ok, did the WH set out to neutralize the two top newspapers in the country or did it just work out that way? Let's back up for a minute, remember what happened with 60 Minutes in its report about Bush's National Guard records -- egg on the face, tail between the legs, and reduced credibility along with long term timidity. Humm, pretty good results from a classic Rovian strategy. Now wait, what newspaper broke Watergate, and what was that reporter's name? And, gee, what other newspaper has the clout, credibility and financial means to dig into top level corruption? Right, those bastions of liberality, the New York Times and the Washington Post. Humm, what would happen if their top reporters, you know, the ones who would do anything for access and who really believe that they have to protect their sources, were given confidential information about that turncoat Joe Wilson? The secret is so important that they won't be allowed to even tell their editors. Maybe, just maybe they could be bought, hook, line and sinker... Alice and Wonderland in the Times and Post newsrooms where the lunatics are in control, where the inmates are running the jail, and where editors are so blind and dumb they are led around by the line staff. How did the two top newspapers in the country, if not the world, become the protectors of a mass of lies and corruption in the Executive Branch? How did they become defenders of two reporters who sold their souls to the devil just to get and keep access? Are the days of accountability in the newsroom over with? Although the Rovian strategists are pleased to have now reduced the credibility and influence of the three top investigative news outlets in the country, we at VR know that what has sprung up to take their place is a more powerful phenomenon - millions of patriotic Americans who demand to know the truth, who investigate corruption, and who will be heard. This is how the collective "we" hold the media and corrupt politicians accountable. The revolution has begun...
