Fascism in the United States

On message By Lewis H. Lapham Harper's Magazine, October 2005, pps. 7-9 "But I venture the
challenging statement that if American democracy ceases to move forward as a living force, seeking
day and night by peaceful means to better the lot of our citizens, then Fascism and Communism,
aided, unconsciously perhaps, by old-line Tory Republicanism, will grow in strength in our land."

In 1938 the word "fascism" hadn't yet been transferred into an abridged metaphor for all the world's
unspeakable evil and monstrous crime, and on coming across President Roosevelt's prescient remark
in one of Umberto Eco's essays, I could read it as prose instead of poetry -- a reference not to the
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse or the pit of Hell but to the political theories that regard individual citizens as the property of the government, happy villagers glad to wave the flags and wage the wars, grateful for the good fortune that placed them in the care of a sublime leader. Or, more emphatically, as Benito Mussolini liked to say, "Everything in the state. Nothing outside the state. Nothing against the state."
The theories were popular in Europe in the 1930s (cheering crowds, rousing band music, splendid
military uniforms), and in the United States they numbered among their admirers a good many important people who believed that a somewhat modified form of fascism (power vested in the banks and business corporations instead of with the army) would lead the country out of the wilderness of the Great Depression -- put an end to the Pennsylvania labor troubles, silence the voices of socialist heresy and democratic dissent.
camps, the chimneys at Treblinka), we lose sight of the faith-based initiatives that sustained the tyrant's rise to glory. The several experiments with fascist government, in
Among the most notable:
The truth is revealed once and only once.
Parliamentary democracy is by definition rotten because it doesn't represent the voice of the people, which is that of the sublime leader.
Doctrine outpoints reason, and science is always suspect.
Critical thought is the province of degenerate intellectuals, who betray the culture and subvert traditional values.
The national identity is provided by the nation's enemies.
Argument is tantamount to treason.
Perpetually at war, the state must govern with the instruments of fear. Citizens do not act; they play the supporting role of "the people" in the grand opera that is the state.
Eco published his essay ten years ago, when it wasn't as easy as it has since become to see the hallmarks of fascist sentiment in the character of an American government.

CHENEY BEING TARGETED FOR IMPEACHMENT
" Around the world, as a second carrier group moves toward the Persian Gulf, and White House threats against Iran are repeated on a daily basis, it is recognized that the only certain path to stopping the planned attack on Iran is the impeachment of Dick Cheney, who today, just as in the case of the Iraq War, is running the "team" and the policy for "regime change" in Iran:" Michele Steinberg / Executive Intelligence Review
Make no mistake about it ~ Lewis Libby took the fall for Cheney in the plamegate indictments. But the greatest crime of this administration is their crime against peace ~ for which they have yet to be indicted.

Topic: Commander-In-Thief
When Benjamin Franklin exited Independence Hall after the Constitutional
Convention in 1787, a lady approached him and asked, "Well, Doctor, what have
we got -- a Republic or a Monarchy?"
"A Republic ... if you can keep it," Franklin replied.
Benjamin Franklin and other Founding Fathers were not overly optimistic. Their
Constitution, intended to postpone a slide into tyranny, cleverly separated government
into three branches: legislative (the Congress), executive (the President), and judicial
(the Supreme Court). The Constitution then gave each branch checks and balances
over the others. Now, any tyrannical faction would have to capture three governments,
not just one.
Ironically, 21st century America is witnessing the opposite: a government takeover
from "above," from a Big-Government and Big-Business merger supported by a
slim majority of voters.
Today, neo-conservative politicians and moneyed elites have utilized religious
fundamentalism to create a bare "tyranny of the majority," but a tyranny nonetheless.
A 21st century tyranny is, if anything, more viable than a 19th century one: the
technology of mass surveillance, virtual voting and sophisticated propaganda all
aid and abet tyranny -- with the stamp of approval of an authoritarian Supreme Court.

FEMA CONCENTRATION CAMPS: Executive Orders
There over 800 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to
receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they
are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management
Agency) should Martial Law need to be implemented in the United States and all it would
take is a presidential signature on a proclamation and the attorney general's signature on a
warrant to which a list of names is attached. Ask yourself if you really want to be on Ashcroft's list.

Bush's Tyranny for a Bankrupt Nation'
Date: Monday, February 06
Topic: Economic Policy
President Bush has consistently defended his massive $500 billion tax cuts. He has
insisted that deficit spending be a "permanent" part of the national budget. His economic
plan has eroded the confidence of central banks around the world and increased the federal
debt by a whopping $3 trillion. Still, he persists in his claim that deficits should be an
enduring function of government.
Doesn't this confirm that bankrupting the country is an integral part of the Bush grand strategy?
What more proof do we need?
Imagine someone stealing your credit card and running up a $450,000 bill year after year
and then defending the theft as necessary to "create more jobs" as the "trickle-down" theorists do?
Would you take such a person at his word?
Deficits are theft; and the determination to make these lavish tax cuts for the wealthy permanent
proves beyond a doubt that it is part of a larger strategy to bring about an economic meltdown
that will change the political complexion of the country.
What else could it mean?

A Treasonous Camarilla
AIPAC espionage case points to larger spy scandal
by Justin Raimondo
The Larry Franklin-AIPAC-WINEP connection strongly suggests that what we are dealing
with here is not simply a domestic group that had somehow seized control of U.S. foreign
policy in order to pursue their interventionist agenda, but a foreign-directed and assisted
covert operation designed to subvert the institutional foundations of various key government
agencies and hijack U.S. military might in order to serve the interests of a foreign power, i.e.,
Israel. This suspicion is particularly strong when it comes to Feith, who had his security
clearance revoked in 1982. The charge: leaking information to the Israeli embassy.

Bush-GOP Supporters and Phenomenon of Delusion
Posted on Thursday, February 02 @ 10:00:40 EST
George W's poll numbers are tumbling as more and more Americans are seeing through
his lies and are shaking off their blindness to the devastation he and his Republican
co-conspirators are bringing down upon our great republic and our personal lives. It is a
gleam of clarity for these millions of Americans, an experience likened to seeing flashed
across their TV screens the images of destruction wrought by hurricane Katrina.
In spite of the enlightenment of the millions now disapproving Bush, there are still many
good Americans tenaciously supporting the lawless Bush/GOP regime. For example
fervent anti-abortionists continue to endorse Bush in spite of all his baby killing in Iraq.
Apparently, it's wrong to kill (abort) American babies, but it's OK to kill Iraqi babies.
What is the psychology behind this illogical mind twisting that keeps these folks in
such a state of delusion?

'Unfathomed Dangers in PATRIOT Act Reauthorization'
Posted on Tuesday, January 24 @ 09:57:30 EST
A provision in the "PATRIOT Act" creates a new federal police force with the power
to violate the Bill of Rights. You might think that this cannot be true, as you have not read
about it in newspapers or heard it discussed by talking heads on TV.
Go to House Report 109-333 USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005
and check it out for yourself. Sec. 605 reads:
"There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the
'United States Secret Service Uniformed Division.'"
This new federal police force is "subject to the supervision of the Secretary of Homeland Security."
The new police are empowered to "make arrests without warrant for any offense against the
United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the
United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has
committed or is committing such felony."

How Close Are We to the End of Democracy?
Martin Garbus
We have today seen President Bush's legal defense for the surveillance program. There is,
he tells us, an unparalled crisis.
It reminds me of the United States Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore, stating they had to
interfere with the election and overrule the Florida Supreme Court because we were in a
national crisis -- we couldn't have a president elected at the appropriate time and place.
There was then a democracy with the Constitution telling us exactly how the election should
be handled.
There is no crisis today that justifies suspending the constitution. There is a constitution in
effect today. That constitution has endured for over 200 years.
Bush's cry of "crisis" is as false as former Chief Justice Rehnquist's (and four other Justices)
cry of crisis. Each time both Rehnquist and Bush tried to set aside the Constitution to get an illegal result.
No president in over 200 years of our history has ever before claimed the "unitary powers"
that Bush claims are his. Not President Lincoln during the Civil War, not President Wilson
during World War I, not President Roosevelt during World War II, not President Truman
during Korea, and not Presidents Johnson and Nixon during Vietnam.
Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and James Madison all saw the
danger -- they never arrogated that power to the presidency.
Alito and Roberts, Thomas and Scalia, claim it, Bush claims it. Kennedy, who said in
Bush v. Gore the Court was reconsidering the design of the government, will surely go along.

Bush Could Seize Absolute Control of U.S. Government
By DOUG THOMPSON
Publisher, Capitol Hill Blue
Jan 13, 2006, 07:42
President George W. Bush has signed executive orders giving him sole authority to
impose martial law, suspend habeas corpus and ignore the Posse Comitatus Act that
prohibits deployment of U.S. troops on American streets. This would give him absolute
dictatorial power over the government with no checks and balances.

F.E.M.A. Camp Video.
Who will be placed in these Internment Camps?
Fascinating indeed, and terribly foreboding.
I wonder what the people watching the construction of Auschwitz thought?
Do you suppose that any of them waved a few warning flags like this?
One could ALMOST just say that these are "parking lots" and "warehouses".
But the MULTIPLE, electronically operated high-security turnstiles...???
THOSE wouldn't be needed if this were truly intended as a "locomotive repair" facility.
It's hard to argue with the evidence, when you can see it with your own eyes
in this terribly odd video.
Who, indeed, does FEMA and the evil Washington cabal plan to imprison in these
domestic internment camps??
